Understanding Your Personal Debt

People incur credit card debt for different reasons. Your personal debts are unsecured or secured. Secured debts usually are tied to an asset, like your car for a car loan, or your house for a mortgage. If you stop making payments, lenders can repossess your car or foreclose on your house. Unsecured debts are not tied to any asset, and include most credit card debt, bills for medical car and signature loans. Not paying the balance on a credit card can damage your finances just as much as a secured debt.

If you are experiencing financial hardship and your debts are unsecured, try receiving debt counseling. With the right guidance, you can eliminate credit card debt within months. However, you must be able yo recognize why you are struggling financially and also be willing to make a change.
